Kenya’s Purity Jemutai destroyed the course of the 30th edition of the Mitja Marató Internacional that was held on Sunday (6) in Granollers, Spain
Jemutai came to the race with the foucus on the sixteen years course record of 1:10.24 that had been set Gete Wam from Ethiopia.
The Kenyan lived to the expectations as she took charge of the race from the start to the finish cutting the the tape in a new course record of 1:0718 taking off almost three minutes from the previous one.
Ethiopia’s Ethlemahu Sintayehu, was the only rival to Jemutai but she could not keep up with the hot pace and by the 10km mark she was chasing behind by 1:12.
Sintayehu came in home two minutes later as she crossed the line 1:09.35 which also under the previous record.
“In the second part of the route I was aware that I could beat the record”, said Jemutai, who was running her second half marathon in Granollers.
Naomí Mitchell from Britain closed the first three podium finishes in 1:13.10.
