Kenya’s Purity Kajuju Gitonga broke the women course record at the 33rd edition of the Barmer Alsterlauf 10K race held on Sunday (04) in Hamburg, Germany.
The 26 year-old who came to this race with a personal best of 32:43 that she got last year at the Nacht von Hasbergen where she took the honors, improved on her time as she led 1-2 Kenyan podium finish, as she smashed the previous course record of 31:20 that had been set by Mary Mananu in 2017 with a new course record and personal best of 31:14.
Gitonga was followed a distant later by her compatriot Janet Chepngetich who crossed the finish line in second place in a time of 32:29 with German’s Tabea Themann closing the podium three finishes in 35:08.
German’s Caroline Balduhn and Fenna Merry from the Netherlands finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 37:00 and 37:21 respectively.
