Kenya’s Philemon Kiptoo Kipchumba took the top honors at the 25th edition of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon held on Sunday (12) in Hong Kong, China.
The 24 year-old beat two Ethiopians who were race favorites, Limenih Getachew Yizengaw and Senbeta Geza Tadease in a hotly contested event.
Kipchumba who was targeting the race course record of 2:09.20 that was set in 2019 by his compatriot Barnabas Kiptum, could not fulfill his ambitions as he cut the tape in a time of 2:10.48 and was followed a distant later by Yizengaw who managed to cross the finish line in 2:11.56.
“Running is my passion and this is my second marathon, I targeted to finish under 2 hours and 10 minutes, but it wasn’t to be this time,” said Kipchumba.
Tadease closed the first three podium finishes in 2:12.00.
