Tokyo 3000m women steeplechase champion Peruth Chemutai won the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association personality (USPA) of August after being unanimously chosen by the sports scribe body at the monthly meeting that was held on Monday(11) at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.
Chemutai wrote history by becoming Uganda’s first woman to win an Olympic gold in the 3,000m steeplechase games.
The 22 year-old, beat Tokyo 5000m champion, Joshua Cheptegei and the Silverbacks who reached the quarterfinals of the Afro Basketball championship in Rwanda.
USPA vice president Leon Ssenyange revealed that such recognitions motivate athletes.
“This recognition shows that we follow what sports personalities do plus also identifying their efforts. We believe it motivates the winners or even those who have not won to perform harder,” he stated.
