Burudi’s Onesphore Nzikwinkunda beat a star studded field to win the 93rd edition of the International Podesta Circuit of Castelbuono International Race that was held in the City of Palemo, Italy.
The Burundian battled a strong team that included 2015 World Marathon Champion Ghirmay Ghebreslassie from Eritrea, two-time Olympic champion and four times world champion in the 3000m steeplechase, Ezekiel Kemboi.
The 21 year-old led the first seven laps of the ten laps and then extended into the next uphill section to conquer the great classic of the Sicilian village.
Nzikwinkunda held on to cut the tape in 34:54 with 2016 New York Marathon winner Ghebreslassie crossing the line eleven seconds later.

First Kenyan to cross the line was Nicholas Kosimbei who pulled 35:15, protagonist in the central stages of the race.
James Kibet and Kemboi both from Kenya finished in fifth and tenth place in 35:59 and 37:17
