Former Africa 3,000m steeplechase champion Norah Jeruto will be the star to watch at the 10k Valencia Ibercaja race that will be held on Sunday (3) in Paseo de la Alameda, Valencia.
The Kenyan born turned Kazakhstan international, recently beat the Rio Olympic silver medallist in 3,000m steeplechase champion Hyvin Kiyeng from Kenya at the Zurich Diamond League that enabled her to lift her first ever Diamond league trophy.
The 26 year-old will be heading back to fight for the first position as she finished third in the 2020 edition in a personal best of 29:51.
Jeruto will battle with Rosemary Monica Wanjiru who made her international debut at the 2015 African Games where she won a silver medal in the 5000 m, forming a Kenyan sweep of the medals alongside Margaret Chelimo and Alice Aprot.
Wanjiru is not new to this course as she took the silver medal at the last year’s edition in a personal best of 29:50 which is also the fastest time on paper.
The 26 year-old who was placed fourth at the 2019 World Athletics Championships behind Sifan Hassan, Letesenbet Gidey and Agnes Tirop will battle for the pole position with Jeruto who has had a stellar performance this year.
The two will battle with Dorcas Jepchumba Kimeli who comes to this race with a personal best of 29:57 that she got at the 2019 Birell Prague Grand Prix.
Another title contender is the 2019 World silver medallist Champion in 5000m race, Margaret Chelimo who carries a personal best of 30:43 that she got at BOclassic Alto Adige – Corsa di San Silvestro.
