The 2021 Tokyo 5000m fourth finisher, Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli smashed the 22 years 5k record at the Road to Records Race that was held on Saturday (30) Herzogenaurach, Germany.
The 23 year-old who ran 5,000m in Hengelo setting a sub 13 life time best, fought for honors with the 2019 World silver medallist, Yomif Kejelcha, who was too good with his lightening speed that forced Kimeli to settle in second place with a time of 0.12.55 which made him to be the fastest Kenyan in the 5km history, erasing the 22 years history of 12:59.5, that had been set by Sammy Kipketer in 2000 in Carlsbad, United States.
Kejelcha won the race with a world-leading time and personal best of 0:12.53.
Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew also set a New Bahrain National Record when he finished in third place in a time of 0:13.07.
