Former Africa cross country champion, Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli ran the fifth fastest time in the World at the Brasov Running Festival 10km Race held on Sunday in Brasov, Romania.
Kipkorir who led a 1-6 Kenya finish took charge of the race at the 5km mark and never looked back as he surged a head to crush the old course record of 28:32 that had been set last year by Peter Mwaniki Aila from Kenya with a new astonishing course record of 26:51.
“I hope that I can challenge the World Record one day here, the course is very flat and fast” said Kimeli.
The 2021 Tokyo 5000m fourth finisher, was followed by Weldon Langat who crossed the line in second in 26:55 with Isaac Kibet Ndiema closing the podium three finishes in 26:55 all running under the old course time.
Romania Andrei Rusu smashed the National Record of 28:53 that had been set in 2019 by Ștefan Iulius Gavril with a new record of 28:38. Gavril finished in eleventh place.
