Kenya’s Nesphine Jepleting beat Irene Cheptai at the 23rd edition of the Prague Half Marathon that will be held on Saturday in Prague, Czech Republic.
The 25-year-old came to this race with a time of 1:09.26 that she got at the Adizero Road to Records last year, beat a strong deep field that included World Cross Country silver medallist, Cheptai and Brenda Jepleting who beat the two at Road to Records and was also the race favorite.
Jepleting who finished third at the World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold event in Eldoret in February, led a 1-2-3 Kenyan podium as she cut the the tape in a new life time best of 1:06.57 and was followed by Cheptai who crossed the line in a time of 1:08.40.
“The weather surprised me, I didn’t expect it to be so cold. The worst was the headwind, which made it really hard at times,” said Jepleting.
Brenda Jepleting closed the first three podium finishes in a time of 1:08.53.
Ethiopia’s Ftaw Zeray Bezabh and Sofia Yaremchuk from Ukrainian came home in fourth and fifth place in a time of 1:08.53 and 1:09.09 respectively.
