Kenya’s Nelly Jepchumba smashed the course record of the 20th Edition of the Madrid Half Marathon that was held on Sunday (14) in Madrid. Spain.
Jpechumba battled two Ethiopians, Alemitu Tariku Olana and Ayinadis Teshome Birle but she overpowered them to run a new personal best and course record of 1:07.47 breaking the previous course record of 1:09.40 that had been set in 2014 by Cynthia Jerotich from Kenya.
She was followed closely by Olana who crossed the line in second place eleven seconds later. Birle closed the first three podium finishes in 1:08.18.
The top five runners all ran under the old course record.
Winfridah Moraa Moseti and Sandrafelis Chebet Tuei both from Kenya came home in fourth and fifth place in 1:08.22 and 1:09.01 respectively.
