Kenya’s Mercy Jerop Kwambai won the women’s marathon race at the 30th edition of the Philadelphia Marathon held on Sunday (19) in Philadelphia PA, United States.
The Kapsabet based athlete won the race in a time of 2:30.52 and was followed by Christine Welsh of United States in 2:33.28 with Ethiopia’s Damaris Areba wrapping up the podium three finishes in 2:33.31.
Elizabeth Chikotas and Demitu Hawas Lenjiso of Ethiopia came home in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 2:35.13 and 2:35.52.
Kwambai pocketed Kshs 1,525,000 ($10,000) as prize money.
