The 2013 World 5000m silver medallist, Mercy Cherono led from the start to end to claim the top honors at the 49th edition of the Corrida Pedestre Internationale de Houilles 10km Road Race held on Sunday (18) in Houilles, France.
The 31 year-old who missed the course record of 30:32 set by her compatriot Norah Jeruto in 2019 by 24 seconds, faced no stiff challenge as she ran solo for the entire race to cut the tape in a new personal best of 30:55 and was followed by Ethiopia’s Mestawut Truneh in 31:45 with France’s Sara Benfares closing the podium three finishes in 31:45.
The 2016 European 5000m bronze medallist, Sara Twell and Kidsan Alema from Ethiopia came home in fourth and fifth place in a time of 32:14 and 32:59 respectively..
