African 100m women record holder Marie Josée Ta Lou broke Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce’s meeting record at the Meeting Città di Padova, a World Athletics Bronze Label Race held in Veneto, Italy.
The 33 year-old who is also the 2017 world silver medallist took on Sha’Carri Richardson who is fresh from beating the Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica and World 4×100 m relay team champion, Twanisha Terry from the United States.
Ta Lou was too strong for the two as she headed into a headwind of -1.2 m/s, setting a new meet record of 10.94 seconds with Terry coming home in second in 11.14 and Richardson forced to settle in third in 11.25 seconds.
“I am happy to be here in Italy. I clocked a good time. I had a shoulder injury before the World Championships in Eugene, but I came back stronger with an African record in Monaco. I hope to finish the season well in the Diamond League final in Zurich next week”, said Ta Lou.
