The 2019 World silver medallist Champion in 5000m, Margaret Chelimo smashed the world 10km record at the 10k Valencia Ibercaja race that was held on Sunday (3) in Paseo de la Alameda, Valencia.
Chelimo set the new world record when she cut the tape in unofficial 29:50
Chelimo who came to this race as an underdog proved otherwise as she stretched the two race favorites, Norah Jeruto and Rosemary Wanjiru who could not keep up with her pace.
the two pacers pushed Chelimo to the wire as she went on to destroyed the previous world record of 30:01 that had been set last month by Agnes Tirop who is also the 2019 World bronze medallist champion. Tirop set the record at the Road to Records in Germany.
