Kenya’s Margaret Agai broke the course record at the 98th edition of the Kosice Peace Marathon held on Sunday (02) in Košice, Slovakia.
The 34 year-old who came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 2:24.28 that she got at the 2013 Daegu Marathon where she took the honors, lived to her expectations as she smashed the old course record of 2:24:35 that was set last year by Ayuntu Tadesse from Ethiopia with a new course record of 2:24.04.
“I didn’t expect to set the course record. I’m pleasantly surprised by this, I don’t even know what to say,” said Agai.
The defending champion, Ayuntu was forced to settle in second place as she crossed the finish line twenty five seconds later with her compatriot, Bone Cheluke finishing in third place.
