Kenya’s Lucy Mawia took top honors at the 27the edition of the Cross Internacional de Soria that was held on Sunday (31) in Soria, Spain.
Mawia beat the Francine Niyomukunzi , winner in Amorebieta as she cut the tape in pole position. The Kenyan was followed by Ethiopia’s Likina Amebaw.
Burudi’s Francine Niyomukunzi closed the first three podium finishes.
In the men’s event, the African athletes were untouchable. ThomasAyeko and Joel Ayeko who are brothers from Uganda were fighting for victory with Thierry Ndikumwenayo from Burudi, Rodrigue Kwizera and Yemane Haileselassie. In the end the victory went to the Kwizera took the honors after out-sprinting Thomas to cut the tape in 28:54.
Thomas was forced to settle in second place in 29:00 with Joel closing the first three podium finishes in 29:09.
The first Spanish to cross the line was Yemane Hailesselasie who finished in fifth place.\
