Little known Charles Lokir Katul from North Rift surprised top notch athletes as he ran away with the National title at the Athletics Kenya National Cross country championships held on Saturday (21) at the Ruiru Prisons, Kiambu County.
Katun who failed to make to team Kenya for the World Cross country championships that will be held on February 18th in Bathurst, Australia, after finishing in ninth place last month, thrashed a strong deep elite field when he cut the tape in 29:16.0 with Isaac Kibet coming home in second in 29:16.02.
“I came here to prove myself after I finished ninth in last month’s trials. I am very happy this is my first win at the national championships and I am now preparing for Sirikwa Cross Country set for next month,” said Katun
Dennis Kipngetich finished in third in 29:23.0.
