Kenya’s Lilian Jelagat destroyed the Münster-Marathon course record which was in its 40th edition, held on Sunday (11) in Münster, Germany.
The 33 year-old led 1-5 Kenyan finish as she crashed the old course record of 2:29.12 that had been set in 2013 by Eleni Gebrehiwot from Germany with a new course record and personal best of 2:27.38. Jelagat was followed a distant later by Peris Jerono who crossed the line in second place in a time of 2:28.52.
The race favorite Gladys Jerotich Kiptoo who came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 2:28.45 that she got early this year during the Rome marathon where she finished in second place, was forced to settle in third place in 2:29.17.
Naomy Chepkorir Tuei and her compatriot Brenda Jerotich Kiprono finished in fourth and fifth in a time of 2:30.18 and 2:32.09 respectively
