The 2015 African Games 5000m silver medallist, Leul Gebresilase was pushed to the tape for his victory at the 51st edition of the Aramco Houston Half-Marathon held on Sunday (15) in Houston, Texas, United States.
The 30 year-old found the going tuff as he jostled with Wesley Kiptoo who put on a spirited fight as the two were forced to a sprint finish with a bit of suspense but the Ethiopia managed to hold the Kenyan cutting the tape first in a time of 1:00.34 with Kiptoo coming home in second a second latter.
“I was fighting for the finish line. Being the winner, I’m very happy. This competition is very nice,” said Gebresilase.
The 2018 Mediterranean Games half marathon champion, Mohamed El Araby closed the podium three finishes in 1:00.58.
The double NACAC U23 Bronze medallist, Alberto Gonzalez Mindez and with the 2015 World University Games silver medalist, Zouhair Talbi finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 1:01.03 and 1:01.08 respectively.
Gebresilase collected a cool $10,000 as the prize money.
