Kenya’s Leonard Langat is now the winner of the 38th edition Vienna City Marathon that was held on Sunday (12) in Vienna, Austria.
Langat had finished in second place in 2:09.25 but was reinstated to first position after Derara Hurisa was disqualified. The organisers have come out to explain that, “The initial winner of the Vienna City Marathon had to be disqualified for wearing shoes which are not compliant with the rules. Ethiopia’s Derara Hurisa had won the race 2:09.22 …
The sole of road running shoes has to be no thicker than four centimeters. Hurisa was running with a model that has a sole thickness of five centimeters ….”
With the above changes this means that Betesfa Getahun from Ethiopia moves to second place to take the silver in 2:09.42.
Edwin Kosgei from kenya and Japan’s kento Kikutani now have moved to fourth and fifth place in 2:10.10 and 2:10.37 respectively.
