The 2017 Africa Cross Country silver medallist, Leonard Kiplimo Barsoton will headline the 7th edition of the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K, which is the only World Athletics Elite Label road race over this distance that will be held on Sunday (18) in Kolkata, India.
The 28 year-old who is also a two time World Cross Country Championships Silver medallist, will battle for honors with the reigning Commonwealth Games marathon champion Victor Kiplangat of Uganda and the two-time Tokyo Marathon winner Birhanu Legese of Ethiopia.
Kiplangat who became the first Ugandan to win the Commonwealth Games marathon gold medal, withdrew last month from competing at the Kampala Marathon so that he could prepare for this high profile race.
Legese who is a one-time Major Marathon Silver medallist, knows this course very well as he competed here in 2018 setting his lifetime best of 1:15:48.
Barsoton who holds the fastest time on paper and the race course record time of 1:13.05, will have to get past Kiplagat and Legese to be able to lift the race title for the second time.
