South Africa’s Stephen Mokoka successfully defended his title at the ASA Half Marathon championships that was held on Saturday (28) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The 33 year-old chased his eight titles when he beat a strong field to cut the tape in 1:01.44 short of twenty three seconds he ran last year.
Mokoka was followed by Benard Bil two seconds later with Kenyan Linus Ruto crossing the line placed third in 1:01.48.
Elroy Gelant took fourth place with Gladwin Mzazi finishing fifth in 1:01.48 and 1:01.49 respectively.
In the women race, Lesotho’s Mamorallo Tjoka took top honors as she cut the tape in 1:10.46 and was followed closely by Namibia’s Helalia Johannes who crossed the line five seconds later.
Kenya’s Susy Chemaimak came in distant third in a disappointing 1:12.32
