Kenya team, for both men and women have qualified in men and mixed relays scheduled to start mid this month at the 2023 World Athletics championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary.
Athletics Kenya president Lt Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei said that the Kenya has qualified in the 4x400m as well as the 4x400m mixed relay and they are waiting for the final confirmation from World Athletics.
According to World Athletics, the top eight ranked teams get a direct ticket while the next eight get invitations to the championships.
The mixed relay team which comprise of Commonwealth Games 800m champions Mary Moraa, Commonwealth Games 800m champion, Wycliffe Kinyamal, the 2015 All-Africa Games 400m champion, Bonface Mweresa, and Africa Games silver medallist, Naomi Korir boasts of 3:14.61—a time set during the national championships in June this year.
Hopes for the mixed relay team to scale up the world rankings were shattered on Saturday when they were disqualified at the True Athletes Classics Meeting in Leverkusen, Germany.
The quartet was ruled out of their race after breaching the Technical Rule (TR) 24.19 for beginning the race outside the takeover zones.
