Kenya’s Nicholas Kirwa will battle for top honors at the 45th Paris Marathon that will be held on Sunday (17) in Paris, France.
Kirwa comes to this race as the fastest runner on paper with a time of 2:05.01 that he got at the Generali Milano Marathon in May of this year.
The 27 year-old will face off with Joel Kemboi Kimurer whom they met in Milano but Kirwa beat him hands down as he gave a kick of a life time leaving Kimurer with no option but to settle in second 2:05.19.
Two more Kenyans will also be on the start list, Elisha Rotich and Stephen Chebogut. Rotich comes in as the second fastest runner on paper with 2:06.44 while Chebogut has a pb of 2:05.52 that he got at the 2015 Eindhoven Marathon.
Ethiopia have put their hopes in Abdi Fufa who carries a personal best of 2:05.57 that he got early this year at the Xiamen Marathon where he finished in second place.
Ethiopia’s Ashenafi Moges and Moris Munene Gachaga from Kenya have been lined up also to fight for the honors. Moges has a personal best of 2:06.12 that he got at the 2019 Maratón Valencia while Gachaga holds a pb of 2:06.24 that he got at the 2019 Amsterdam Marathon.
France has their hope in the fastest French man Hassan Chahdi who holds 2:09.11.
The race organisers have assembled this team of elite athletes to try and lower the race course record of 2:05.04 that was set in 2014 by Kenenissa Bekele from Ethiopia.
