The 2018 African 10000 Athletics Champion, Jemal Yimer will be defending his title at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon that will be held on August 28, 2022 in Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Yimer is the fastest ever debut half marathon of 59:00 that he got in 2019 at Ras al Khaimah half marathon in United Arab Emirates, who will target the race after Boston Marathon at the end of April.
The 24 year-old took the honors last year in a time of race 1:00.29 as he edged out Tesfahun Akalnew also from Ethiopia who crossed the line in second place a second later.
Yimer will battle the youngest ever New York City Marathon and World Marathon champion, Ghirmay Ghebressalassie from Eritrea, who will be making his first appearance on the super-fast Antrim Coast course.
The UK and Ireland will be led by Tokyo Olympians Marc Scott, who was recently crowned World Indoor 3000m bronze medallist, who will be returning for a third year, after finishing third at last year’s event.
The two-time European record holder has finished second and fourth at the event and will be looking to take his current record-breaking form into this year’s event and go one better.
The race organisers have invited 12 elite athletes who have already confirmed and they include last year’s third placed Shadrack Kimining and new Ethiopian sensation Gizealew Ayana – just 19 years old – who finished second in the Poznan Half Marathon last year in 59:39 in his debut at the distance.
