Kenya’s James Ngandu took the top honors in his marathon debut at the 50th edition of the Houston Marathon that was held on Sunday (16) at the Houston, Texas, United States.

The 31 year-old battled the experienced Elisha Barno who is fresh from winning the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon and he came to this race carrying an all time best of 2:09.32 that he got at the 2018 edition.

Ngandu was too good to handle as he gave a kick of his lifetime to cut the tape in a personal best of 2:11.03 with Barno coming home in second place thirteen seconds later.

Japanese Kenta Uchida closed the first three podium finishes in 2:11.19.

Ethiopia’s Keikile Gezahegn crossed the line in fourth place in 2:11.20.

Ethiopia’s Tariku Jufar’s record of 2:06.51 that he set in 2012 remained intact.
