Olympic 1500m champion, Jakob Ingebrigtsen will be chasing to break the World 5km Record at the 24th edition of the Cursa dels Nassos that will be held on Saturday (31) in Barcelona, Spain.
The 22 year-old who is also the World 5000m champion will compete for the first time on Spanish soil, as he comes to this race with a life time best of 27:54 that he got in his home town in 2019.
Ingebrigtsen who is also a four time European champion will be targeting to lower the current World record of 12:49 that was set last year at this same course by Berihi Aregawi from Ethiopia.
It will be the first time I will compete in Spain, although I have been here four times watching my brothers compete. And if I have the chance to beat the world record, on the 31st, I will do it,” said Ingebrigtsen.
Ingebrigtsen will face-off with the 2017 African U20 800m bronze medallist, Adisu Girma, the 2019 European 10,000m champion, Jimmy Gressier, who carries on his shoulders the fastest time on paper of 27:43 that he got in 2019.
The 2019 European 10,000m champion, Jimmy Gressier and the two time Asian Games 1500m and 5000m champion, Mohamed Al Garni from Qatar have also been included in the start list.
