The reigning Africa junior 5,000m silver medalist Jacob Krop, made sure that he leaves an indelible mark at the World stage as he banged a silver medal at the just concluded World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
The 21 year-old came home second in 13:09.98 behind the Olympic 1500m champion Jacob Ingebrigtsen who gifted his country their first ever gold medal in the 5,000m race in a time of 13:09.24.
Uganda’s Oscar Chelimo won bronze, which is the countries second medal in the event, after a bronze medal by Moses Kipsiro in 2007.
Guatemalan Luis Grijalva finished in fourth place which is the best finish in the event by a Guatemalan runner, and he was aslo the first from his nation to make the final in this event. It is also the best finish by a Guatemalan athlete in any event in the World Championships, bettering the 6th-place finish of Erick Barrondo in the 20 km race walk in 2011.
