World Cross Country champion Jacob Kiplimo ran the fastest time this year as he equaled the World best for the 15km Race at the 39th edition of the NN Zevenheuvelenloop held on Sunday (19) in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
The 22 year-old who is also the Tokyo 10,000m bronze medallist, ran a tactical race as he allowed his compatriot Rogers Kibet to do the pacing work for him until the 5km mark when he engaged his gear and pulled away from Kibet, surging ahead solo as he took command of the race to cut the tape first in a New world Record time of 41:05 which equals Joshua Cheptegei’s time that he set on this course five years ago.
Kibet was left with no other option but to settle in second place more than a minute later in 42:44 with the 2021 World U20 3,000m steeplechase champion Amos Serem sealing the podium three finishes in a time of 43:07.
Netherlands Filmon Tesfu and Mike Foppen were the first and second Dutch to cross the finish line in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 44:00 and 44:01.
