Athletics Kenya president Lt (Rtd) Gen.Jackson Tuwei was elected as World Athletics Vice-president for a two year term at the just concluded 54th edition of the World Athletics Congress held today (17) in Budapest, Hungary.
The Kenyan AK president was among the four vice presidents elected after garnering 104 votes to represent the African Continent at the congress. Former Colombian sprinter, Ximena Restrepo got the most votes of 154 and will represent South America, with retired Spanish triple jumper Raul Chapado representing Europe with 119 votes and former Indian sprinter Adile Sumariwalla getting 115 to represent the Asian.
Tuwei also serves as the Confederation of Africa Athletics Senior Vice President and President of the Eastern Africa Athletics Region. He is also a member of the World Athletics Global Calendar Committee. Back home, he is the chairman of the Sports, Arts, and Social Development Fund.
