The last circuit of the Athletics Kenya Cross country meeting will be held on Saturday (13) at Iten Grounds, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The race organisers have billed this to be the battle of the titans as they expect more than 1,000 athletes to feel the ground with top elite athletes gracing the event.
After this Cross Country Meeting the final leg will held in the capital Centre for the Athletics Kenya National Cross Country that will be held on Saturday (10th) at Kenya Prisons Training College in Ruiru.
Athletics Kenya will use the Ruiru Meet to select the team to represent Kenya at the World Cross country championships that will be held in February 18th 2023 in Bathurst, Australia next year.
The visa application timelines to travel to Australia forced Athletics Kenya to change dates as the deadline to apply for visa was set to be on 11th December 2022. Australia visa processing takes at least two months. This has necessitated Athletics Kenya to change the dates of the previous Cross-Country Calendar.
The North Rift Athletics Kenya Public Relations officer, Boniface Tiren said that all preparations have been finalized because they are expecting a big number of athletes seeking the national trials slot.
“As the last meet in the circuit, we may host over a 1,000 athletes and that needs better preparations and that we have done,” said Tiren.
With many athletes involved in other races across the world, Tiren said those who missed to compete in other races or meetings across the country, will have an opportunity to prove themselves.
“Some athletes have not had a chance to compete in other races and this will be their last chance to get that slot to compete at the national trials. So we expect a tough race with top athletes facing off,” he said.
