Kenya’s Ismael Kalale took the top honors at the 23rd edition of the Udine Half Marathon held on Sunday (17) in the City of Udine, Italy.
The 28 year-old who came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 1:00.47 that he got in 2018 at the Lisbon Half Marathon where he finished in fourth, led a 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish when he beat a strong Kenyan dominated race, taking his first career win over the distance in a time of 1:01.07. Kalale was followed by his compatriot Bernard Musau Wambua in second place in 1:01.33.
Kenya’s Erik Leon Ndiema who was more familiar with the course as he was here in 2018 and was also a third place finisher at last weekend’s Tallinn Half Marathon, closed the podium three finishes in 1:01.35.
Rodgers Maiyo, Eric Riungu and Frdrick Kiptoo all from Kenya finished in fourth, fifth and sixth place in respective time of 1:03.42, 1:06.10 and 1:07.11.
The course record of 59:06 that was set ten years ago by their compatriots, Geoffrey Mutai remains standing.
