The Tokyo Olympics 1500m champion, Jakob Ingebrigtsen defended his title at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships held on Sunday (11) in La Mandria Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the outskirts of Turin.
Just four months after taking his tally of senior continental gold medals to a magnificent eight with his second successive 1500/5000m double, Ingebrigtsen lived to his expectations as he trounced a deep elite field into pieces that included Mohamed Katir of Spain, Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa and European U23 Championships Bronze medallist, Emile Cairess from Great Britain – and the European Indoor 3000m silver medallist Isaack Kimeli from Belgium.
The 22 year-old became the third to win back-to-back title as he claimed a stunning sixth successive individual title at the SPAR Cross Country, having claimed four U20 titles between 2016 and 2019.
Ingebrigtsen took the top honors in a time of 29:33 and was followed by Cairess, who came home nine seconds later, outsprinting Kimeli to the line.
