European Indoor 3000m silver medallist, Isaac Kimeli was beaten to second by European 10,000m bronze medallist, Yann Schrub at the fourth leg of the CrossCup held on Sunday at the Hannut (Liège), Belgium.
Schrub who fell outside the top five at the European Championships, took on the Kenyan born Belgian in a thrilling race that left many astonished as the race favorites Gideon Rono who was the clear favorite after a great performance a fortnight ago during the Cinque Mulini in Italy and was expected to extend his winning streak. Another title contender was the World U20 3000m bronze medallist Levy Kibet from Kenya, who perfomed below his expectations.
The 26 year-old Frenchman was too hot to handle as he took charge of the race at the final stage, as he accelarated past Kimeli to cut the tape first in 28:29 with the latter following in second nine seconds later.
Home grown Guillaume Grimard made sure that his country is on the podium as he finished in third place in a time of 28:59.
Gideon Kiprotich and Kibet finished in fourth and fourteen place in a time of 29:07 and 29:42 respectively.
