Irene Kamais ran away with women 10,000m title at the ongoing Kenya National trials for the World Athletics Championships slated for August 19-27 in Budapest, Hungary.
Kamais beat a strong field that included the 2019 World silver medallist, Margaret Chelimo, the 2019 World Marathon champion, Ruth Chepngetich and the reigning World Cross Country senior team gold medallist, Agnes Ngetich.
Kamais waited patiently until the remaining two taps, when she took charge of the race and forged ahead with little confindence but managed to cross the finish line first in a time of 31:52.20 with hot heats, Ngetich following in second place in 31:52.45.
Kamais and Ngetich both had qualifying marks and will lead the team Kenya at the Budapest Games.
The 20 year-old Catherine Amanangol wrapped the top three podium finishes in 31:54.59, missing the qualifying time.
