The World’s most grueling and mind testing gravel course is back with a bang in what promises to be one of the most entertaining and fulfilling race with lots of actions as the Icon’s Journey Marathon turns five years with all eyes pegged at the Nelson Mandela Museum in Umthatha, South Africa where dreams of achievers will be realized.
The race which traverses through the former Transkei homeland of the Eastern Cape will experience seeing and touching some of the landmarks where some of the South Africa’s iconic freedom fighters namely Walter Sisulu, Mama Albertina Sisulu (Ngcobo Municipality Start), Nelson Mandela (KSD Local Municipality), Thabo and Govan Mbeki (Mbashe Local Municipality Finish) were born.
The race organisers of the two day event have promised fireworks as they expect more participants to register in droves with the closing deadline set to be on 3rd July 2023..
The event will feature seven race categories103km, 35km, 13km and 7km.
Last year’s edition was won by Mthandazo Qhina and Siviwe Nomapelana in a time of 8:29.29 and 10:05.24 respectively with each taking home a cool R50 000.
