World U20 10000m walking race champion Heristone Wanyonyi won the Most Promising boy Athlete award during the 18th edition of the Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) that was held on Tuesday night (25) at the Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega County.
Wanyonyi broke the record by becoming the first Kenyan to win gold in a walking racing international.
The 18 years-old defeated junior golfer from Muthaiga Taimur Malik, Chipu captain Andrew Matoka in rugby fellow world under 20 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi and world under 20 1,500m champion Vincent Keter.
Wanyonyi completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at Ortum Boys and he is the two time Kenya Secondary schools Sports Association (KSSSA) 10,000m Race Walk champion.
