Double Olympic 5,000m silver medalist Hellen Obiri will start her new season on high at the 57th edition of the San Silvestre Vallecana that will be held on New Year’s Eve (31) in Madrid, Spain.
Obiri’s Pace Management made the announcement on their social media page, Facebook that the two time world 5,000m champion will be in action on the race she began her road running in 2018.
“World 5000m Champion Hellen Obiri will compete in the San Silvestre Vallecana in Madrid on December 31. Hellen ran 29:59 there in 2018 which is the fastest road 10k of her career so far,” announced Pace Management.
Obiri finished second in Madrid in 2018 after a thrilling battle with her fellow country-mate who is also the current world marathon record-holder Brigid Kosgei.
The reigning world cross country champion Obiri will face off with Ethiopia’s Degitu Azimeraw, who is 10 years, her junior.
