Ethiopia’s Haven Hailu Desse smashed the women course record at the 10thh edition of the Osaka Marathon held on Sunday (29) in Osaka, Japan.
The 25 year-old led 1-2 Ethiopian podium finish as she destroyed the old course record of 2:26.29 that was set in 2019 by her compatriot Aberu Mekuria with a new course record of 2:21.13.
Desse was followed by Sisay Meseret Gola who came to this race with the second fastest time on paper of 2:20.50 that she got last year at the Zurich Maraton de Sevilla, where she took the silver medal. Gola crossed the line under the old course record in a time of 2:22.12.
Japan’s Yuka Ando, who competed in the 10,000m at the Tokyo Olympics, closed the podium three finishes in a time of 2:22.58.
