The winners of 13th edition of the Safaricom Madoka half marathon set for October 20 at Ngerenyi Farmers Training center in Taita Taveta County will pocket Sh500, 000.
The prize money is one of the best paying in the country for winners running a 21km race.
The winners of the 21kilometre race will receive a cash prize of 500, 000 shillings each, with second and third-placed finishers getting 250,000 shillings and 100,000 shillings respectively.
Athletics Kenya (AK) Coast branch chairman Dimmy Kisalu said the organizers have set aside Sh2.5 million which will be used to gift winning runners in various categories.
In addition to the 21Kilometres race, the competition will have 5 other categories; 12Kilometres for juniors, 8Kilometres for men over 45years, 8kilometres for women over 35 years, 6Kilometres for boys under 12years and 4Kilometres for girls under 12years.
“Preparations are running smoothly with registration ending on 20th October. We thank our sponsors and urge everyone to come witness this great event,” said Marsden Madoka, the race founder.
The marathon will be held on the Mashujaa day and is seeking to increase participation from foreign athletes in a bid to raise standards of the competition.
