Olympic 5000m bronze medallist, Gudaf Tsegay, is on a mission to lower the World Indoor Mile record at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series that will be held on Wednesday (08) in Torun, Poland.
The 26 year-old who broke the World Indoor 1500m with a time of 3:53.09 in Lievin in 2021, has set her eyes on Genzebe Dibaba’s world Mile record of 4:13.31 that she set seven years ago in Stockholm.
Tsegay who is also the World 5000m champion, took the top honors last year in 1500m race with a time of 3:54.77 and has gone under the 3:55 mark on four occasions outdoors including the World Athletics Championships in Oregon where she took the silver medal in a time of 3:54.52 before winning her 5000m race.
The reigning World Indoor 1500m champion will not have an easy ride as she will have to get past her compatriot Mekides Alemshete and the reigning NACAC 1500m silver medallist, Adelle Tracey from Jamaica as well as Poland’s National 3000m Indoor champion, Eliza Megger.
