The Government has de-registered the Professional Athletes Association of Kenya (PAAK).
In a letter in our possession (athletics.co.ke) and addressed to the PAAK, Secretary General by the Sports Registrar Rose Wasike she effected the cancellation of the association’s certificate.
The registrar said she was compelled to cancel the registration certificate basing on section 47 of the Sports Act which bars her office from registering more than one sports organization in any one sports discipline.
“Another sports organization in the name Athletics Kenya (AK) transited under section 50 of the Sports Act and is also not registered to deal with sports discipline of athletics in Kenya,” read the letter in part.
Wasike said the cancellation is in accordance with Section 48 (1) of the Sports Act and paragraph 5 (1) of the Sports Registrar’s rules and regulations.
“You are hereby required to surrender the cancelled certificate to the Sports Registrar within seven days of this notice,” ordered the Registrar.
The organization is best remembered for storming and besieged AK headquarters in Nairobi for two days demanding for change of guard of the local athletics governing body two years ago.
