The 2015 African U20 silver medallist, Fredrick Kipkosgei Kiptoo defended his title at the 27th edition of the Palermo Marathon held on Sunday (20) in Palermo, Italy.
The 29 year-old who came to this race with a lifetime best of 2:19.18 that he got in September at the Maraton Warszawski where he finished in seventh place, led 1-2 Kenyan podium finish in the rainy course when he took charge of the race from the 35k mark and never looked back, running solo for the reminder of the race to clinch the title for the second time with a new personal best of 2:16.44. Kiptoo’s compatriot Bonface Fundi Njiru took the second spot in 2:25.45.
“It’s wonderful to win, but winning again is even more beautiful – said Kiptoo – a different path than last year’s, no less demanding. Now I’m enjoying this success in this beautiful city”.
The first Italian to cross the line was Andrea Aragno who closed the podium three finishes in a time of 2:32.20.
