Former Nairobi County Government Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe showed his grit and running pace to win the 800 meters athletics CEO’s race during the Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) Inter Bank’s annual event held at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS) in Nairobi on Saturday.
Igathe returned 3:26.09 amid thunderous cheers, hardly 24 hours of joining the financial institution as the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director.
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Prof. Patrick Njoroge a second place finisher last year found the tough going to settle for fifth place in 3:40.04.
Gilbert Alela of the Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) returned 3:31.06 to claim the second spot as Paramount Bank’s Ayaz Merali completed the last podium finish in 3:32.01.
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Group Chief Executive Officer Joshua Oigara was fourth by clocking 3:35.01 ahead of the Central Bank Governor.

The Group Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of NIC Bank Group, John Gachora settled for sixth position by clocking 3:50.08 ahead of Jeremy Awori Managing Director, Executive Director, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Barclays Bank of Kenya in seventh place in 4:08.01.
The Standard Chartered Bank Chief Executive and Chairman of the Kenya Bankers of Association (KBA) Lamin Manjang was eighth in a time of 4:35.01 as the Kenya Post Office Savings Bank (Post Bank) Managing Director Sylvester Obuon was ninth in 5:05.06.
Athletics competition will take place on the final day of the championships on September 29 just before the closing ceremony.
The participating banks include Bank of Africa, Barclays Bank of Kenya, Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Chase Bank, Citi Bank, Commercial bank of Africa, Consolidated bank, Co-operative Bank, Credit bank,
Diamond Trust Bank, Equity Bank, Eco Bank, Housing Finance Group and Kenya Bankers Sacco.
Others include I&M Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank, Post Bank, National Bank of Kenya, NIC, Standard Chartered, Prime Bank, Platinum Credit, Agricultural Finance Corporation, Gulf African Bank Housing Finance Victoria Commercial Bank, Kenya Bankers Association, KPMG and Technical University (TUK) Banking Finance students
