Africa’s fastest man in 100m Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala has sent a strong warning to Olympic 100m champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs who has been confirmed to be racing at the 3rd edition of the Absa Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour that will be held on Saturday (7) at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, in Nairobi.
The Saturday battle will bring out the best of Omanyala after last week’s explosive performance where he set two National Records in 100m and 200m at the same ground that the KipKeino classic will be held.
The race will be an electrifying one when Omanyala, the continental 100m record holder will take on World 60m Indoor champion.
The 26 year old will run against the European 100m Champion, who is also the Italian National Record holder in both 100m and 60m race.
While speaking to Athletics News, Omanyala said “It is great that he is here. It will be a good competition. I know I will run that race without him in mind. I know I will beat him.”
Omanyala who lacked respect by ‘arresting’ reigning commonwealth games 100m champion Akani Simbine, silencing home fans last month at the ASA Athletics Grand Prix series where he clocked 9.98 seconds which was his first sub 10 as he beat Simbine pretty easily with the latter coming home in second in 10:11.
Omanyala last month ran a World Leading time of 10.00 seconds, which is the third fastest time ran on home soil after breaking the African record with a time of 9.77 seconds behind American Trayvon Bromell at the 2021 World Athletics Continental Tour that was held at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
Lamont has proven to be a pain to his opponents this year after beating them at the four event that he has met with them proving that it wasn’t a fluke winning the Olympic title.
The 27 year-old is the first 100m Olympic champion since 19996 to win gold without a recent top 200m mark.
Other title contenders at the Classic includes Tokyo Olympic silver medallist, Fred Kerley, the 2020 World 100m champion, Mike Rogers and World 4×200 m relay team silver medallist, Isiah Young.
Youngster Sinesipho Dambile who caused a major upset at the South African championships by beating both Clarence Munyai and Luxolo Adams to clinch the men’s 200m title in Cape Town, has also been included with the first Italian in history to break the 10 seconds barrier, Tortu Filipo closing the nine lane race.
