Africa’s fastest man in 100m Ferdinand Omanyala lacked respect by ‘arresting’ reigning commonwealth games 100m champion Akani Simbine at home, silencing home fans at the 4th leg of ASA Athletics Grand Prix series, the Continental Tour Challenger that was held on Wednesday at the Germiston Stadium in Johannesburg .
The 26 year-old, who holds both the Kenyan National Record and Africa Record, has now beaten the South African National 100m Record holder three times in all the meetings that they have faced each other.
Omanyala who has been in South Africa for the last two weeks, won his first 100m race in Potchefstroom last week in a time of 10.11, but saved his best for last.
Omanyala clocked 9.98 seconds which was his first sub 10 as he beat Simbine pretty easily with the latter coming home in second in 10:11. Bradley Nkoana closed the first three podium finishes in a time of 10.32.
“My mission is complete, I’ve achieved what I came to achieve in South Africa, expect good time ahead,” Said Omanyala.
The Kenyan took charge of the African record of 9.77 in September last year during the Kip Keino Classic that were held in Nairobi chased his time as he had earlier said during an exclusive interview with us last week.
