Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon denied Sifan Hassan the chance to add another trophy on her cabinet at the finals of the Wanda Diamond League series that were held on Thursday (9) in Zurich.
Kipyegon who set the Olympic record over the distant taught the triple Olympic medallist champion a lesson as she closed the season on high note when she slug it out in a brilliant way and kept her nose in front to win her first Diamond Trophy since 2017.
The two times Olympic champion held off the Dutch at the home stretch to deny her the title as she crossed the line in 3:58.33.
Hassan, the Olympic 1,500m bronze medallist, finished second in 3:58.55 as American Josette Norris came home in third place in 34:00.41.
Kipyegon took home Kshs 3,000,000, for the prize while Hassan pocketed Kshs1.2m while Norris got Sh700,000.
