After setting a new world 5000m race in her debut, Faith Kipyegon was at it again but this time at home as she was crowned the new 5000m National champion at the Trials For World Championships held on Friday (07) at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
The 29 year-old who is also the double Olympic 1500m champion beat a strong deep elite field that included the 2017 World Cross Country bronze medallist, Lilian Kasait, the 2019 World 5000m silver medallist, Margaret Chelimo and ASICS Österreichischer Frauenlauf,Naomi Chepngeno.
Kipyegon who also holds the World 1500m record took the honors in a time of 14:53.90 and was followed in second by Kasait who has come back from a ten month doping ban in a time of 14:56.50 with the 2018 Commonwealth Games 5000m champion wrapping the podium three finishes in 15:07.49.
Cintia Chepngeno and Naomi finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 15:17.56 and 15:17.65.
