Double Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon obliterated the mile world record to complete a historic Diamond League Meeting hat-trick on Friday evening at the Monaco Diamond League Meeting held at Louis II stadium in Monaco.
The double World 1500m Champion has been in a shape of her life time as she broke two world records in a span of one week
The 29-year-old wrote history when she smashed eight year record of Genzebe Dibaba of 3:50.07 that she set here in Monaco with a new World 1500m Record of 3:49.11 and becoming the first sub-3:50 woman in history. Kipyegon then followed up with an impressive run precisely one week later at the Paris Diamond League Meeting where she erased Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey record of 14:06.62 with a new world record of 14:05.20.
Kipyegon who is the most medaled athlete in Africa, today went for the hat-trick when she smashed Sifan Hassan’s mile world record of 4:12.33 that was set eight years ago with a new Mile Record of 4:07.64.
Ireland’s Ciara Mageen followed in second place a distant later with a new national record of 4:14.58 with Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu wrapping up the podium three places in a time of 4:14.79.
