Kenya’s Evens Chebet stormed to victory on his debut at the5 0th edition of the TCS New York City Marathon, a World Athletics Platinum Race and a World Marathon Major competition held on Sunday (06) in New York.
Chebet became the first man to win Boston Marathon and New York Marathon in the same year since 2011 when he passed a collapsed Brazilian Daniel do Nascimento around mile 21 to surge ahead and cut the tape in a time of 2:08.41.
“Boston Marathon was actually harder, which prepared me for this race,” said Chebet,
The 33 year-old was followed closely by the 2020 World Marathon Majors champion Shura Kitata from Ethiopia who crossed the finish line in 2:08.54 with the Tokyo Olympics marathon silver medallist, Abdi Nageeye closing the podium three finishes in a time of 2:10.31.
